About the centre Enrolment and Information Session Before attending the weekly tuition classes, a meeting is scheduled between the parent, child and Instructor to clarify our individual roles and highlight where on the Kumon programme they would start. At the session your child will complete a free diagnostic test designed to show the level of their current ability.  Attending Class Following your decision to join the centre your child will attend the tuition centre once or twice a week for about 30-40 minutes dependent on how many subjects are being studied. Our students find coming to class an enjoyable and confidence boosting experience as they receive positive feedback from the Instructor and class assistants on their work and progression. Coming to class also enables children to see what new work they might be moving on to next and enables the Instructor to observe and provide appropriate guidance. Students are guided through the class routine until it is familiar to them and they are able to organise themselves without help. Completed homework is exchanged for new work before starting the booklet for that day. Younger students on the early levels of the tuition programmes will be supported by either the Instructor or an assistant. Gradually, as they become more independent, these students will also work on their own.  Whilst the work for that day is being marked, students are able to take part in a number of additional activities to support their learning, including mental arithmetic, times tables practice and a chance to beat their fastest time on the Kumon number board. There is also a selection of reading books which can be read in class. Once work has been marked, students return to their desks to complete any corrections, enabling them to learn from their mistakes. Students can then see the Instructor for positive feedback on their performance and guidance on their way forward. Students are rewarded through a sticker system in class for doing their work every day, having it marked and corrected, coming to class and passing achievement tests. Completed sticker cards can then be exchanged for prizes.  Whatever the activity, the aim of the class visit is to encourage students to aim high and to build self-confidence and excellent study skills that will equip them for life. Other motivational events include the annual National Advanced Student Roll(ASR) ceremony. The students are awarded certificates and medals, in recognition of reaching exceptional levels of achievement, relative to their age.  Homework During your weekly centre visit you will be provided with individually tailored work for every day of the week. This generally takes 10 - 20 minutes per subject a day and you will be provided with an answer book to mark your child's homework. Marking your child's work daily will encourage them to adopt good daily study habits and to correct their work immediately. This will also help to keep you informed of your child's progress.
