There are many forms of psychological therapy, hypnotherapy is distinctive because it deals with the clientÂ’s unconscious mind. Everything that is experienced, from birth up to the present, is recorded in the unconscious mind; usually we are unaware of this information. All behaviour stems from the unconscious, i.e. the way we feel about ourselves. Hypnotherapy is a way of releasing negative thought and emotions that can make us feel unhappy and unable to live a fulfilled and normal life. Hypnosis is a state of mind, achieved through physical and mental relaxation, allowing communication with the unconscious mind. This state of mind may be achieved by you unaided (self-hypnosis) or with the help of another person (a hypnotist/ hypnotherapist).
• People are often concerned of ‘losing control’ during hypnosis. Contrary to this thought, scientific tests have proved that regardless of how deeply a person may go into deep relaxation and however passive a persons temperament, they will always be in full control of the situation.
